I once heard the acclaimed director Martin Scorcese say something quite poetic about Terrence Malick’s 1998 film “The Thin Red Line.” He mentioned something along the lines that the film has no concrete beginning and no clear end, that its structure was deliberately shapeless and that it broke the convention of what a narrative is expected to be.
